A strange but powerful weapon, the Agunea (or Agnea) fires a small, nearly-invisible projectile straight ahead. Once it hits, the attack button can be held down and multiple bolts of lightning will strike the target.
It is an effective weapon against many bosses in Symphony of the Night, particularly the Succubus. There are four Agunea to be found in the entire game, spread across both castles. One must be careful while using it, however, as it consumes 5 Hearts per bolt summoned, and bolts emit in rapid succession, which may deplete the player's heart reserves in just a few seconds.
Agnea is a skill which the Mage-Type Innocent Devil, Ogre Rod uses. It consists of blasting several enemies in front of the Innocent Devil with continuous Thunder damage. This ability consumes 20 Hearts with each cast.
The Agunea is a spell that can be used by Alucard.

- In Slavic mythology, Agunea is the youngest son of Svarog, a fire god often equated with Hephaestus. Agunea's role is to purify and protect the righteous with flames from "heaven", which in Castlevania might be interpreted as lightning.
- Alucard's lightning attack while jumping in Castlevania Judgment is most likely inspired by his Agunea sub-weapon in Symphony of the Night, although it cannot be continuously applied.
- Netflix's Castlevania Season 3, Episode 7, the Agunea is shown among the Belmont's weaponry in the Belmont's Keep.
- Possibly due to the limited detail on its icon sprite in Symphony of the Night, for a long time the Agunea was either described as a "lightning ring", a "taser", or even as a derringer type pistol; with this last one actually being the correct answer, as evidenced by its detailed portrayal in the animated series.
