Astral Veil, also known as Astral World, is a Bullet Soul appearing in both Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow and Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow. It grants Soma Cruz the ability to swap the HP and MP of enemies.
Game specific information[]
Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow[]
The Astral Veil can be acquired from the Killer Mantle. When used, Soma swipes a mantle a short distance straightforward. The hit will deal minor damage with no attribute, but the first strike on an enemy has the additional effect of switching its HP with its MP. Striking again will only deal damage; the player cannot re-swap the totals if the result was unfavorable. The points are swapped before the hit deals damage, meaning they take a hit on their new HP total. This can result in the Astral Veil instantly killing a tough enemy.
Since an enemy's MP is not displayed, the effect is unpredictable and can be either good or bad. Magic-using and demonic enemies tend to have high MP, while creatures that owe their magic to an outside source and those with mainly physical attacks tend to have low MP. For example, a hit with the Astral Veil will cause a Succubus to swap to her 3,000 MP, instantly turning her in a formidable enemy with about six times as much HP as she normally would, but will instantly kill a Red Minotaur. Some enemies, such as the Man Eater and the Big Golem, have identical HP and MP totals; with these it will seem like the veil does a normal hit with its first strike.
The Astral Veil is most useful against the Iron Golem, which has resistances to all forms of attack and normally takes 1-2 HP of damage from any weapon, with 9,999 HP in total. The Iron Golem has only 1 MP, and hitting it with the Astral Veil will kill it with a single attack. Mina Hakuba will give a hint to this effect if Soma speaks to her a few times once he is far enough into the game.[1]

Known as Astral World in this game, this ability can be acquired from an Imp instead. - Iron Golem (50 HP to 15 HP)
- Slime (20 HP to 1 HP)
- Tanjelly (155 HP to 1 HP)

Trivia[]
- In Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow, one of the enemies that can be instantly defeated with the Astral Veil is the Red Minotaur. This characteristic way of defeating this particular enemy might stem from the traditional idea that bulls get enraged when they see the color red and how bullfighters commonly use red capes to lure them in a bullfight.
