Belmont Crest - Nocturne - 01

The Belmont family crest.

The Belmont Clan, sometimes referred to as the House of Belmont, is a legendary family of vampire hunters featured in the Castlevania and Castlevania: Nocturne animated series. Although known mainly as vampire hunters, the Belmonts are specialized in hunting down all manner of supernatural forces that would threaten humanity and the world.

Belmont Clan members[]

Leon Belmont (11th century)[]

Leon Belmont (animated series) - 02

Leon Belmont

A French knight of the 11th century and the founder of House Belmont, Leon was the first of his family to enter the region of Wallachia and face the legendary Dracula, following a migration of monsters to Eastern Europe. He would eventually settle in the region and build the Belmont Hold, establishing the foundations for the family’s tradition as monster hunters.

Trevor Belmont (15th century)[]

Trevor Belmont

A descendant of Leon, Trevor was the last surviving member of the Belmont clan during the late 15th century. Orphaned at a young age after his family was persecuted and excommunicated by the church due to its ties to the supernatural, Trevor dedicated his life to wander Wallachia without purpose as a disgraced social outcast. In 1476, he joined forces with the speaker magician Sypha Belnades and the son of Dracula, Alucard, and would successfully stop Dracula's genocidal war against humanity. Along with Sypha, Trevor also managed to stop a cult from resurrecting the vampire king, and subsequently, Death itself from doing the same, ultimately defeating the Grim Reaper by his own hand. Trevor eventually fell in love and settled with Sypha, thus allowing the Belmont bloodline to survive.

Juste Belmont (18th century)[]

Juste S2 - red coat

Juste Belmont

A 18th century descendant of Trevor and Sypha. Juste inherited the magical abilities of his speaker ancestress, and was said to be the most powerful sorcerer the Belmont line ever produced. He grew up hearing stories about Alucard from his father and grandfather, and would eventually meet him at the age of fourteen. As an adult, he would marry a woman named Lydie Erlanger, with whom he had a daughter, Julia, and was best friends with a man named Maxim. However, both his wife and best friend would be brutally murdered by the vampire Lord Ruthven, and years later he would also lose his daughter at the hands of Olrox.

Julia Belmont (18th century)[]

The daughter of Juste and Lydie, Julia would leave for the New World to hunt vampires on her own, after fighting with her father for unknown reasons. Julia eventually conceived an only son, Richter Belmont. In 1783, Julia would face the vampire Orlox and kill his lover. She would try to send Richter back to Europe for safety, but the two would be caught by Olrox and Julia would ultimately be killed in front of Richter.

Richter Belmont

Richter is the last known member of the Belmont line during the times of the French Revolution. He grew up being trained in magic and combat by his mother Julia, from whom he also learned everything about his family's history. After the death of his mother, however, Richter lost his magical power and was raised by his distant cousin Tera, along with her daughter Maria. In 1792, after the rise of self-proclaimed vampire messiah, Erzsebet Báthory and her cult of followers, Richter and his adopted family joined forces with former slave Annette, his grandfather Juste, and ultimately, Alucard himself to bring the vampire countess down. During this time, Richter regained his magical abilities, now more powerful than ever. A young but formidable hunter, Richter would come to rival, if not surpass his grandfather Juste in magical prowess, allowing him to defeat Erzsebet and her henchwoman Drolta Tzuentes, and end their plans for vampire supremacy over the world.

Powers and abilities[]

Trevor kills death

Trevor defeats Death.

A lineage defined by their ability to kill, the vampire hunters of the Belmont Clan are known for their preternatural physical prowess, combat abilities, and their mastery over various weapons, primarily their whips. While mortals, hunters like Trevor are trained from an early age to be at the pinnacle of physical human capability, in order to face vampires, demons and other beings that are superior to normal humans in almost every aspect, hence the Belmonts have proven to be dangerous and efficient killers who very rarely struggle with the average human opponent. They have been capable of incredible feats of strength, speed, agility, stamina and endurance well above most humans, able to go almost toe-to-toe with most vampires and night creatures.

Weapon mastery[]

The Belmont whip and The Morning Star are the family’s primary weapons against the supernatural, and they wield them with uncanny precision and acrobatic prowess. These weapons are consecrated, infused with holy power and are sometimes capable of destroying vampires with one single lethal strike. Additionally, the Belmonts tend to also be expert marksmen with almost superhuman accuracy; even in his old age, Juste was still able to throw multiple knives from his sleeves at a tremendous speed. Furthermore, Trevor was a resourceful and quick-thinking tactician and combatant, able to improvise weapons and use the environment around him to his advantage during a fight.

Occult knowledge[]

Besides their physical abilities, the Belmonts have also accumulated extensive knowledge of the occult over the centuries under their ancient Belmont Hold, an underground repository, museum, and library, where they have stored everything found and learned since the days of Leon.

Magical powers[]

Richter Belmont (Ep 16) 07

Richter infuses Alucard's sword with his magic.

After the speaker and magician Sypha Belnades entered the bloodline, all the Belmonts after Trevor were born with magical abilities. This mostly includes mastery over elements like fire, ice and electricity. Since then, the magical potential of the Belmonts has been refined and enhanced with each generation, eventually reaching Juste and Richter Belmont, likely the two most powerful sorcerers of their bloodline until this point.

It is also implied they can temporarily lose their abilities to use magic after going through an intense traumatic event (such as witnessing the death of a loved one), although likewise, their magic can be reawakened by firm determination (like when they think about protecting the people they care about).
