Despite the NES and SNES series being named Castlevania, Castlevania II, Castlevania III and Super Castlevania IV, there was never a game called Castlevania V. However, several games could be considered to be "Castlevania V":
- Akumajō Dracula (Sharp X68000) was released in Japan only, and was a remake of the original game.
- Castlevania: Rondo of Blood was also released only in Japan. This was the first game to move beyond the era of Simon Belmont, taking place in 1792.
- Castlevania: Bloodlines was the first proper Castlevania game released in North America after Super Castlevania IV, and thus could be considered "Castlevania V".
- Castlevania: Dracula X was a SNES port of Rondo of Blood which made it to North America and Europe. The name Castlevania V usually refers to Dracula X.
