The Chosen Une is an enemy in Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia. It is a victim of the parasitic une that leaves une in his steps.

Description[]

Some Une may attach to a human rather than feeding from them, using them as a host to gain mobility and spread their seeds. This form is known as the Chosen Une and may be based on the archetype of swamp creatures; and appropriately, they are only found in the Argila Swamp.

The Chosen Une initially appears as a human in a zombie-like state, bearing a sickly-looking brownish skin and wearing nothing more than a pair of old and worn pants. They are usually found in small groups shambling inside of a swamp. When the Chosen Une detects the player, it immediately sprouts several patches of Une all over its body which quickly grow and wrap it entirely, adopting the form of a plant humanoid which then starts advancing toward the player at a moderate speed while also leaving a trail of normal Unes along its path. Since they can move freely in deep water, this gives them an advantage in mobility over their enemies. This is worsened as they are often found along other dangerous creatures endemic of the area, like Mandragoras, Jersey Devils and Stone Roses.

Trivia[]

  • The Chosen Une physiologically resembles the Invisible Wraith from Super Castlevania IV, being that both are humanoid plant monsters.
  • The Creeping Corpse enemy from Castlevania: Lords of Shadow is similar to the Chosen Une, except that the human involved is already dead.
  • Its name is a parody of the narrative trope "Chosen One", where one character, usually the protagonist, is framed as the inevitable hero of the story as a result of destiny, unique gifts, and/or special lineage.
  • This monster may have been inspired by the segment "The Lonesome Death of Jordy Verrill" (which in turn is based on Stephen King's 1976 short story "Weeds") from 1982 comedy horror film Creepshow, where a farmer (played by King himself) is consumed by an parasitic alien plant life form and eventually turns into a humanoid plant monster.
