Contra and Castlevania are two of Konami's biggest side-scrolling platform franchises. They often reference each other and are sometimes bundled together side by side.
Game specific information[]
Contra: Hard Corps[]
- The game features a miniboss called Simondo Belmont who resembles Simon Belmont from the Castlevania series.
- The theme "SIMON 1994RD", played in the background of this encounter, is a remix of "Vampire Killer".
- The game pays homage to the Castlevania series in the ending of the Big Battle stage by recreating the iconic crumbling castle scene (in this case the enemies' base) with the hero staring from far away.
- Colonel Bahamut, the boss of the stage, not only moves his cape in a similar fashion as Dracula, but also transforms into a monstrous second form during battle.
C: The Contra Adventure[]
The Rolling Eyeball boss in this game apparently is a reference to the Big Eye.
Contra Advance: The Alien Wars EX[]
BradyGames packaged its Contra Advance: The Alien Wars EX strategy guide with its Castlevania: Harmony of Dissonance guide.
Konami Collector's Series: Castlevania & Contra[]
Konami Collector's Series: Castlevania & Contra is a compilation of five classic NES Konami games ported to the PC. Three are from the Castlevania series and two from Contra.
The games included are:
Contra ReBirth[]
The second game in Konami's "ReBirth" series made for WiiWare. It was later followed up with Castlevania: The Adventure ReBirth.
Arthroverta and Kimkoh[]
Arthroverta from Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia is an homage to Kimkoh, a recurring boss from the Contra series.
Trivia[]
- Coincidentally, both franchises, Contra and Castlevania, start with a "C" and end in an "a".
