Cudgels in the Castlevania series are essentially any blunt weapon that has some weight behind it, such as a club or a hammer. Their area of attack is usually positioned on the frontal bulk of the weapon, where the major weight is concentrated, leaving the main area that covers its handle unaffected. Enemies or projectiles that manage to get inside of this area won't be harmed by the cudgel.

Castlevania: Circle of the Moon[]
Nathan can use a hammer by using Mars + Golem DSS combination. It causes a quake when smashed onto floor. The size of the hammer is similar to that used by the Hammer Shaker enemy.
