Revision as of 03:06, 20 October 2019
The Double Shot is a power-up item frequently found in classic Castlevania titles. It allows the player to throw two sub-weapons of the same type in rapid succession, allowing them to remain on the screen at the same time.
The Triple Shot is an upgrade to the Double Shot which, likewise, allows the player to throw three sub-weapons in a row.
Availability
The Double Shot power-up has a chance to spawn after the player has killed a determined number of enemies or destroyed a certain amount of candles with the current sub-weapon (about ten of them, and the same counter includes both enemies and candles). If this criteria has already been met and the next enemy/candle was going to drop a Heart or a money bag, it will drop the Double Shot upgrade instead. If the enemy was not going to drop anything, the item will not spawn. Likewise, if the candle had a fixed item in it (such as a sub-weapon or a determined money bag), the upgrade won't drop from it.
The Triple Shot is an upgrade to the Double Shot that will spawn following the same rules while already being in possession of a Double Shot item.
The Double Shot can also be found hidden inside certain breakable walls. If the player is already carrying it, then the Triple Shot will spawn instead. If the player is not holding any sub-weapons or is already in possession of the Triple Shot, then a Large Heart will appear instead.
Sub-weapons will still consume the same amount of Hearts while carrying a Double or Triple Shot. If the player picks up a different sub-weapon at any time, any Double or Triple Shots in their possession will be lost.
Castlevania: Rondo of Blood
While neither the Double nor Triple Shot items appear in Castlevania: Rondo of Blood, the mechanic is still present, although it works in a different way. The ability to throw more than one sub-weapon at a time is directly related to the amount of Hearts the player is currently carrying. This number is different for every sub-weapon, and some can be thrown either two or three times in a row as maximum regardless of the amount of Hearts possessed:
