Drolta Tzuentes is a witch who appears as a non-playable character in Castlevania: Bloodlines, which was published on the Sega Genesis in 1994.

Official background: She is an mysterious old witch and a servant of Elizabeth. She obstructs the vampire hunters quest by controlling demons.[1]

Character History

Some time before 1917 Drolta used black magic to bring Count Dracula's niece, Elizabeth Bartley, back to life. The two then set in motion a plot to resurrect the Dark Lord. Drolta used her magic to animate a Mecha Knight in an attempt to waylay Belmont descendant John Morris and his friend Eric Lecarde. The two heroes eventually foiled the women's efforts.

The American Bloodlines manual states that Drolta was an "amateur witch" who "casts a spell which inadvertently brings Elizabeth Bartley back" to life. However, Japanese manual doesn't have such description.

Trivia

  • Drolta is based on Dorottya Szentes, one of Erzsébet Báthory's servants who was one of three people said to have been tried and convicted as accomplices to the crimes committed by the 'Blood Countess'.
  • After the defeat of Dracula's first form in this game, a cloaked magic-user takes over. This character's identity is sometimes postulated to be Drolta based on similarities between the sprite and artwork, but has also been presumed to be a form Dracula takes. Whether this creature is indeed Drolta or some form of Dracula seems to have been left unaddressed by Konami.
