Easy Mode, also known as Light Mode, is a mode of play offered at the beginning of some games that is easier to play than the standard Normal Mode. It is in contrast to the more difficult Hard Mode.

Game specific information[]

Castlevania[]

Easy Mode does not appear in the original Castlevania but it is available in a few versions of the game, including the Famicom remake version and some cell phone games.

In the Famicom game, Easy mode starts the player with 9 lives and 30 Hearts. Also, the enemies deal less damage and the player does not get knocked back when taking damage. Bosses take double damage from regular attacks and sub-weapons. When a life is lost, the player retains any sub-weapons and Double or Triple Shots they had equipped. The double/triple shot powerups are retained when picking up a different subweapon.

Castlevania: Bloodlines[]

Easy Mode can be selected prior to starting a game. There are slightly fewer enemies, a couple mini-bosses are skipped and Elizabeth Bartley dies after the first battle phase. The cost of super weapons is reduced. The full game ending is not shown if completed on easy.

Castlevania Legends[]

"Light Mode" can be selected when starting a new game. In this version, the player starts out with the whip fully powered up.

Castlevania (N64)[]

Easy Mode is available from the start and allows the player to only play a portion of the game, up after finishing the Castle Center stage.

Castlevania: Legacy of Darkness[]

Easy Mode is available from the start. Unlike the original Castlevania, the game doesn't stop after a certain portion and the full game can actually be played and beaten on Easy.

Castlevania Chronicles[]

Easy Mode can be selected from the options menu, and effects the Arrange mode. Easy mode greatly increases your defense.

Castlevania Judgment[]

Easy Mode can be selected from the options menu, making the computer controlled opponents easy to defeat. They will also not perform Super Finishing Moves in this mode.

Castlevania: The Adventure ReBirth[]

Easy Mode can be selected in the options menu. Some noticeable differences are that getting hit by an enemy attack does not knock the player back. The player also starts out with more Hearts than normal. Dracula's third form will also not appear in this mode.
