Ebisu Etsunobu (蛭子悦延 Etsunobu Ebisu?) was a former producer at Konami, and is considered the main force behind the Ganbare Goemon series. The character Ebisumaru was even modeled after him.
He was part of the development team of a few Castlevania games, as programmer for Akumajō Special: Boku Dracula-kun, and later as producer in games such as Castlevania (N64), Castlevania: Legacy of Darkness, and Castlevania: Circle of the Moon.
Biography[]
Ebisu Etsunobu started in 1988 as a programmer at Konami, working on programming a few games, such as The Adventures of Bayou Billy in 1988, Ganbare Goemon 2 in 1989, and Akumajō Special: Boku Dracula-kun in 1990, as well as programming other Ganbare Goemon games until 1993, where his talents leaded him to be the director of Ganbare Goemon 2: Kiteretsu Shōgun Magginesu. Following this, he directed most of the Ganbare Goemon games, and worked as producer on some Castlevania games as well.
In 2005, he left Konami along with Shigeharu Umezaki and a group of other staffers to establish the development studio Good-Feel.
As of 2020, it was revealed that Ebisu Etsunobu and his team are working on a game, which is a sort of spiritual successor to the Ganbare Goemon series. The game doesn't have a name yet, but is set to be released on the Nintendo Switch.[1]
