Cezar is Hector's reanimated pet dog in the Castlevania animated series. It is a black zombie pug with one eye missing and the other appears to glow a faint blue color, probably related to its undead status.

History[]

Cezar is an undead pug puppy that Hector brought back to life and made one of his many pets, apparently being the most cherished by him. While working at his forge in Dracula's Castle, he thinks back to his youth when he found another dead dog in the fields and, using his abilities, he resurrected it and took it home. However, his mother was terrified by the dog's appearance, including a missing eye and exposed muscle and bone.

Back in the present, Cezar makes his first appearance in the first episode of the second season, War Council, where Hector is seen in his forge cuddling him, when Godbrand enters to grudgingly apologize for his previous outburst in the war hall. When Hector resumes his work on the last corpses from Gresit, the playful Cezar approaches Godbrand seeking to be petted by him, but the vampire scares him off instead, to Hector's evident disapproval of both this action and of Godbrand himself.

Cezar later reappears in the third episode of the same season, Shadow Battles, when Carmilla also enters the forge, in a similar scene to that with Godbrand, to deceptively manipulate Hector into creating an army of loyal undead creatures (with the hidden intention to betray both him and Dracula using them later on). Like with Godbrand, Cezar also approaches Carmilla, but contrary to him, the cunning vampiress starts petting him instead, seeking to win Hector's trust, which she ultimately achieves.

Trivia[]

  • Bunny

Bunny, Sam Deats's pet pug, was the inspiration behind Cezar.

Cezar is an homage to Sam Deats's late dog "Bunny", who passed away shortly before Season 2's production started.[1]
  • While Cezar is male (referred to as such in the series), Bunny was female.
  • The name "Cezar" is a derivative of the Latin Caesar.
