The Falchion is a sword with a wide, crescent blade used by Normans. It is found in Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow, and Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin. In Symphony of the Night, it appears as a standard one-handed sword. In the latter two games, it appears as an overhead swinging Great Sword. Because the Falchion is classified as a Great Sword in Castlevania: Harmony of Despair, yet is swung as a normal sword for Alucard, it has the distinct disadvantage of being a two-handed regular sword for Alucard in that game.
Game specific information[]
Castlevania: Symphony of the Night[]
The Falchion is a standard sword a bit stronger than the Saber and a bit weaker than the Broadsword. It is found way high up in the Castle Keep. Flying up there is the only way you can obtain this weapon, as it is not dropped or sold. You can reach it as soon as you obtain the Form of Bat, which is earned after the Lesser Demon battle in the Long Library. If you approach the Keep from the Royal Chapel, gaining the sword will do you some good for a while and effectively replace the Saber or Cutlass you are carrying. If you decide to approach it from the Clock Tower though, obtaining it will be a waste of time. You should have already found the more powerful Bekatowa in the skies of the Clock Tower.
Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow[]
The Falchion in this game takes into account how it is used a lot more than the one in Symphony of the Night did. It is the second level of the Great Sword class of weapons. It's heavy form is swung from behind your head with both arms to in front of you like an ax. Even though it moves quite a bit differently than a Short Sword does, it's special still does the same thing and costs the same amount of Mind Points. Soma dashes forward while swinging the massive blade. It can be evolved from a Claymore (which is found right away and can be purchased) with the help of a Warg soul. It can also be purchased directly for a hefty fee. If you're very lucky, you can find one off a dead Dead Pirate. If you use a Great Armor Soul, you can evolve the Falchion into a Great Sword for further power.
Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin[]
The Falchion is again a Great Sword in this game. It is again the second "level" of Great Swords, stronger again than a Claymore, but weaker than a Great Sword. It can be obtained from Andras, first encountered at 13th Street.
