"A young magical researcher assigned to the anti-Dracula agency. Possesses skills greater than her youth would suggest. Supports Arikado on his journeys into the Grimoires. She's housing him too..."
— Description

Lucy Westenra (ルーシー・ウェステンラ Rūshī Uesutenra?) is a supporting character in Castlevania: Grimoire of Souls. She is a researcher and archivist of Elgos.

History[]

Lucy is a magical researcher that works with Elgos, an organization whose objective is to fight threats connected to Dracula and guard his material possessions along the grimoires that contain records from many timelines. The latter position is Lucy's primary responsibility and she takes it very seriously, especially since the grimoires wreaking havoc has made her role all the more delicate to handle.

Lucy was born into the Westenra Clan, who were known exorcists. Like Ecclesia, they sought ways of fighting Dracula in the absence of the Belmont Clan after the events of Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. Lucy grew up without the natural talents of her family to fight dark magic, making her see herself as the black sheep of her family. Feeling inferior, Lucy lost herself in stories of the Belmonts and other heroes who she longed to emulate and accrued a vast knowledge of their history fighting evil.

She joined the Elgos organization not long after Hermina's abrupt departure, where she played a crucial role in restoring the grimoires that had been destroyed by the treacherous witch. Even though she thought her accomplishments were nothing, Seward, the director of Elgos, acknowledges that her assistance saved the organization from falling apart. Westenra partners with Genya Arikado during the initial act of the game, and was responsible for sending him the letter notifying him about the grimoire awakening and causing darkness to spread. Despite lacking her family's exorcist powers, she does possess the ability to use the power of the grimoire to cause characters to come to life.

She plays a supporting role by introducing new concepts and features to the player, as well as elaborating on the story. She also guides the player through various tutorials to demonstrate these features individually.

It would later be revealed that Lucy's restoration of the grimoires had inadvertently aided Death's plans to resurrect Dracula, and that, if anything, Hermina's "treachery" was actually an attempt at stopping Death from succeeding.

  • The secrecy of our research is of the utmost importance. No outsider could ever obtain it.
  • We should use the powers you obtained in the grimoire to request the help of strong allies.
  • I think you treat yourself too harshly. Not that my opinion should matter...
  • Your ultimate aim inside the books is to destroy monsters and claim their Vital Souls.
  • Right! Get ready, everyone!
  • The Vital Soul is successfully captured. Well done, everyone.
  • As I explained before, heroes of old are summoned here from records.

  • Your body contained remnants of Albus's magic. It seemed to have activated when you entered the grimoire. When transposing you and your records, your magic fused with his. As a result, it occurred to me we may be able to summon Albus, too. This is unprecedented, but it seems to have worked.
  • I-It's nothing! You're the hero, not me.

Trivia[]

  • She is based on Lucy Westenra, a character featured in Bram Stoker's 1897 Gothic horror novel, Dracula. Lucy was a close friend of Mina Harker and also became Count Dracula's first English victim. Unlike the poised and prudent Grimoire of Souls character, the carefree Westenra becomes a vampire after death and permanently dies when the Dutch doctor Abraham Van Helsing and his companions confront her.
  • She wrote a romantic manuscript involving a spirited girl and a quiet boy, with the girl struggling with her love for the latter, which Maria, Shanoa and Charlotte discovered, much to Lucy's embarrassment.
