The Flame Armor, or Flame Knight, is sword armor imbued with the power of fire. They were first introduced in Castlevania Chronicles and later reappeared in Castlevania: Circle of the Moon, along with an entire cast of elemental armors.
Flame Knights only appear in a single corridor in the entire game, arguably being one of the most difficult parts of the game. While walking along this hallway, a big chandelier suddenly falls to the floor, almost crushing Simon and setting the whole room ablaze. Some suits of armor stored in the background catch fire and come to life, continuously slashing with their fiery swords. While dodging falling debris and pillars of flame, the player must make haste in traversing this corridor as fast as they can, as other Flame Knights will appear from behind and give chase. When Simon attacks them with his whip or sub-weapon, they will guard themselves, making them invulnerable to attacks. The only way to hit them is to attack them while they swing their swords.
The Flame Armor in Circle of the Moon attacks with a fire sword and has the same patterns as the other armors in the game: he takes three steps forward, then pulls his sword back and performs an overhead swing while briefly lunging forward. His attack has short range; however, the damage it deals is significant for his level.
They are common enemies encountered in the Chapel Tower, although there's also a lone Flame Armor that can be found in the Triumph Hallway, at the very entrance of Camilla's Castle. While dealing with him is completely optional, it's well worth paying him a visit as he guards the first Crucifix sub-weapon attainable in the game.
