"I remember a song we sang in Saint-Domingue when we burned the plantations. A song in the language of the slaves"
Edouard to the Captain

Grenadye Alaso is the seventh episode of the second season, and the 15th episode overall, of the Netflix original series, Castlevania: Nocturne.

Synopsis[]

Chaos erupts under a blood-red sky as the battle for Paris begins, Alucard's allies on one side and Erzsebet's army on the other.

Plot[]

Sekhmet using Annette as a vessel informs Richter and Alucard that her three souls must be reunited to return the cosmic balance. Richter notes that she's Sekhmet, and she notes that Annette's could be too fragile a vessel for the souls of a God. Hearing this makes Richter give a pensive glare, and they exit the shop together as Richter comments on how strong Annette has become. As they progress forward and witness the chaos on the streets, Sekhmet comments on how the Earth has fallen to ruin. Curiously, Richter asks if Erzsebet would be even more powerful now that she has two souls in her possession, and Alucard hopes that the third one is their match. However, Richter asks if they can't bring her back, but Alucard assures him with a pat on the shoulder and heads onward.

In Sekhmet's temple, Annette takes her machete and shield to prepare to face the monster she encountered before.

Erzsebet rides on her two-horse-drawn chariot with her cult members in the front, Drolta flying in the sky, and the Night Creatures following in tow. Edouard walking with Jacques, Captain, and an unnamed night creature, recalls a song he sung in Saint-Domingue. It was when they burned the plantations, a song in the language of the slaves, and Edouard started to speak in Creole for a bit and then in English. It's then that Edouard sings in Creole right as Erzsebet's army confronts the National Guard and inspires Captain to convince most of the night creatures there to become turncoats and attack one another.

Alucard, who was on the side of the Nation Guard, ordered the cannons fired at Erzsebet, who stopped them all mid-firing. She then effortlessly slaughters the National Guards on the frontlines. To prevent further deaths, Alucard orders the guards to retreat into the back alleyway as the cult members pursue them. There, Maximilien Robespierre orders his men to kill the vampires, and Alucard finishes off the remaining ones.

On Edouard's side, he, Captain, a night creature, and Jacques fight against the night creatures there, and amid it, Jacques is killed by a vengeful night creature.

From the sky, Drolta spots Alucard running down a streetway and confronts him by landing on the wall of a building.

Richter puts on his white bandana as Sekhmet follows him, and they confront Erzsebet, surrounded by several cult members. Pulling out his enchanted whip with his magic, Richter whips it around, and Erzsebet claims that they walk the Earth again. Sekhmet then reverberates, causing Erzsebet to wince in pain as Sekhmet tries to regain her two souls, but Erzsebet fights back the compulsion. Erzsebet questions why Sekhmet was there in a feeble vessel, but Sekhmet claims they don't belong there and continues to try to steal back her two soul parts.

In the spirit realm, Annette continues her fight against the monster.

Maria arrives in Paris by riding her bird familiar, as Sekhmet continues to try and regain her soul parts from Erzsebet, who continues to struggle to maintain control of herself. It's then that Maria arrives, and she falls into Richter's arms, where the two embrace. They briefly exchange that they both have bad news and then are joined by Juste and Mizrak. Juste told the surprised Richter that he's not too old for magic. Richter then informs them that Annette had found Sekhmet, but now it possessed her. He also states that the third soul has Erzsebet in a state of confusion. Noting how serendipitous it was for them, Maria summons many familiars from portals of light and then a pure version of the azure dragon; she then gives Juste a thumbs up. They all then fight the cult members there as Sekhmet tries to regain her two souls from Erzsebet. Amid this, Richter, Maria, and Juste launch a three-way attack against Erzsebet, who manages to hold her ground. Sekhmet starts to show exhaustion, which Richter notices.

Alucard continues his fight against Drolta, and Edouard, fighting off against the night creatures, witnesses the vengeful night creature kill another ally of his. The two then decide to face off against each other.

Back to Richter's side, Maria mounts onto the dragon; she has her dragon launch three fireballs at Erzsebet, who defends against them. Richter and Juste attack her from both sides as Maria's dragon propels fireballs at her. After incapacitating Juste, Richter uses his Ice enchanted whip to attack Erzsebet as Maria uses her dragon to launch her into the air. Airborne, Juste plunges a giant ice spear into Erzsebet, causing her to crash into a nearby building.

Despite their efforts, Erzsebet remained, and her wounds started regenerating. Shocked by this, Richter then spots Sekhmet fainted the ground nearby. As Alucard's fight against Drolta continues, it's interrupted by Olrox in his serpent from. Mizrak notices this and runs away, and Alucard follows him.

Maria and Juste launch a joint attack against Erzsebet as Richter checks on Sekhmet, but calls her Annette. Seeing that she is overheating, Richter uses his ice spell to surround Sekhmet with ice as a way to cool her off. Erzsebet fights against Maria and Juste until she notices what Richter is doing. Erzsebet then tries to attack Sekhmet, but Richter intervenes only to be pinned to the ground but loses her grip when Sekhmet tries to absorb her soul again. Richter then attacks Erzsebet with a flurry of kicks and punches, and Maria then takes over with her dragon. However, Erzsebet tosses the dragon aside, making Maria fall off it and be rescued by Juste. As Sekhmet struggles to maintain her cool, Richter continues to try and maintain the ice surrounding her.

On Annette's side, she continues trying to fight against the monster in Sekhmet's temple.

Drolta continues fighting Olrox, Edouard continues his fight against his adversary night creature, and Alucard and Mizrak fight against vampire cult members. Once they were finished, Alucard noticed that Mizrak sustained a wound on his left side. Olrox would notice this and rush to his side. Old Man Coyote then appears and declares that he's not for him, making the devil laugh and disappear. Alucard then asks Olrox to keep Mizrak safe as he's a good man, and after thanking him, Alucard notes it's not the first time he's saved his life and takes his leave.

Erzsebet fights against Maria's dragon, which moves via her coordination. Both Richter and Juste then attack Erzsebet, leading the trio to heavily wound her to the point that she loses her left arm and is pinned to the ground by Juste's ice spikes. Taking advantage of the situation, Maria has her dragon spew fire at it, which Juste adds his fire to it, and Richter chips in as well. Spotting Sekhmet, Erzsebet casts a dark blaze of fire at her, but Richter leaps in front of her to protect her from harm, using his ice-covered arms to create a barrier. Erzsebet then dispels the fire Juste and Maria cast at her, causing the two to be knocked out unconscious and de-summon Maria's dragon.

On Annette's side again, her fight against the monster has her lying on her back, panting and gazing at the storm-clouded sky.

From a rooftop, Alucard looks at the remaining soldiers as Olrox carries Mizrak over his shoulder out of the area. Alucard briefly watches this and directs his attention to where the fight against Erzsebet is.

Richter asks the exhausted Sekhmet what would happen if her remaining souls reunited in her vessel, but Annette isn't strong enough. Sekhmet answers that Annette's body will burn like the others. Erzsebet then tries to approach them, but her severely wounded state prevents her from stepping any closer to them. Focusing his energy on Sekhmet, Richter and her approach to Erzsebet, and Sekhmet confronts Erzsebet, stating they're both Sekhmet. The difference between them was Erzsebet cast a shadow over their father's face like the serpent of chaos threatening to destroy him every night. She then notes the importance of the sun and offers her hand for her remaining souls to return home. Erzsebet starts to cry and proclaims that she's the messiah and a goddess who was destined to rule the world, but Sekhmet denies that notion. Continuing to listen to Erzsebet's bemoaning, Sekhmet grabs Erzsebet's face and, while absorbing her power, states that they should return home. However, Drolta arrives and interrupts this, despite Richter trying to prevent this. Drolta then takes Erzsebet away into the sky as Richter tries launching fireballs at them but misses and is alarmed by Sekhmet starting to faint.

Annette, using her shield, tried to defend herself against the monster.

High in the sky, Erzsebet proclaimed they should kill them all and lay the city to waste. She then orders Drolta to bring her down, but Drolta refuses, much to Erzsebet's annoyance. She notes that for a thousand years, she wandered the Earth for a worthy vessel. Eventually, she found Erzsebet, the perfect human monster. Unamused by Drolta's insubordination, Erzsebet demands that she obey, but Drolta lament that for two hundred years, she prepared Erzsebet to achieve her destiny. When Erzsebet declared herself as Sekhmet and demands obedience from Drolta. Disappointed, Drolta renounce her as Sekhmet and that she claims that she deserves this power more than Erzsebet. Enraged by this betrayal, Erzsebet tries to retaliate against Drolta with fire, Drolta stops it and bites into Erzsebet's neck, draining her of her blood and power that contains the essence of Sekhmet's Ka & Ba.

Drolta drops Erzsebet's corpse onto the ground below as Richter watches this with Sekhmet lying in his lap and then witnesses Drolta declare herself as Sekhmet, Goddess of War.

Trivia[]

  • Grenadye alaso! translates from Haitian Creole as "Soldiers attack!", from French Grenadiers á l'assaut![1]
  • The title of this episode likely refers to an old Haitian Creole war song whose lyrics read:
Grenadye alaso
Sa ki mouri zafè a yo
Nanpwen manman, napwen papa
Sa ki mouri zafè a yo
Soldiers attack
Those who die, so what?
There's no mom, there's no dad
Those who die, so what?
