Hidden Items are special items appearing in many Castlevania titles that, as their name state, are hidden somewhere within the levels of the game, either behind a breakable wall or by performing a specific action. They are usually worth many points, should the player manage to find them; or can also be acquired just for inventory completion purposes, as they may not have any other use in that game. In most games, these items can be treasures or mascots from other Konami franchises.

Overview

Hidden items first appeared in the original Castlevania. They rise up from the ground as the player walks over a certain area or stays/kneels for a certain period of time in a specific spot. They then have to hurry and collect the item before it disappears. Hidden items would return in that game's remake, Castlevania Chronicles.

Normal items, such as food, weapons, money bags, etc., could be obtained in unusual ways in Castlevania: Rondo of Blood, such as by ringing a bell. Methods like these would become common ways to obtain hidden items in later games. Castlevania: Harmony of Dissonance hid a large collection of furniture in the game that could be used to decorate a special room. Hidden Items involving treasures or mascots became a regular feature of modern Castlevania games starting in Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow, and would also appear in Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin, Order of Ecclesia, and Harmony of Despair.
