Hidden Item

Hidden Items are items in Castlevania games that usually can only be used for points or collection that are hidden in the game, usually only obtainable by performing specific actions. In most games, these items can be treasures or mascots of other Konami franchises.

Hidden items first appeared in the original Castlevania game. They would rise up from the ground when Simon walked over a certain area or knelled for a certain time in a specific spot. Simon then had to hurry and collect them before they disappeared. Hidden Items would return in that game's remake, Castlevania Chronicles and Castlevania: Rondo of Blood. Castlevania: Harmony of Dissonance hid a large collection of furniture in the game that could be used to decorate a special room. These did not usually require special actions to find them though, as they could be found the same way as any other item. Hidden Items involving treasures or mascots became a regular feature of modern Castlevania games starting in Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow and would also appear in Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin, Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia, and Castlevania: Harmony of Despair.

Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow

After a long absence, traditional Hidden Items (treasures) appeared in Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow. Konami Man also appeared as a hidden item, the first mascot item since the Maoi statue, which could also be considered a treasure.

Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin

Hidden items in Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin gave a permanent stat boost in the game once found. These boosts carried over with New Game+ games and would make defeating later games with harder level caps easier.
