The Hien is a weapon in Castlevania: Curse of Darkness. It is a special weapon similar to the Tonfa. It transforms the user's life-force into energy and attacks with it.
Characteristics[]
The Hien is a special weapon that resembles a white tonfa featuring an elaborate design, that Hector carries in his right hand. When used, Hector performs a lunging straight punch engulfed with his inner energy, which can be chained into a three hit combo. Due to this behavior, it sometimes can be a bit difficult to handle for crowd control, as it doesn't perform wide swings and the player can end up moving in only one direction. It isn't recommended for dealing with airborne enemies either, as the player is limited to hit only once while in midair.
The Hien is notable for being the only Light based weapon in the main game (another is the Holy Whip, but it is exclusive to Trevor Mode). While its base attack power is already quite high, being one of the most powerful one-handed weapons in the game, the particularity of being Light based makes it devastating against Dark based enemies, which usually are some of the most dangerous encountered. Depending on the player's stats, the Hien can even kill high leveled Dark enemies in a single punch (such as Ghosts, Wizards, Dark Warlocks, Necromancers, Assassin Zombies, Slogras, Gaibons, etc.), or deal heavy damage to Dark based bosses like Dullahan and Dracula (it deals about 1.5 more damage to these types of enemies than the Laser Blade).
Not enough with this, the Hien can stagger most enemies with each punch, even those that can tank the player's attacks when using other weapons. This is especially useful against heavy enemies like Cockatrices, Basilisks, Executioners, Iron Gladiators, and Ogres. In fact, while the Red Ogre is one of the most dangerous enemies in the game, the Hien can make short work of him, as it will continuously stagger him and cancel all of his attacks, not giving him chance to retaliate (the only enemies known to not get staggered by the Hien are the Efreet and the Jin during their arm sweeping attacks). This can extend to even bosses as even Dracula himself can be caught in a loop if the player hits him before he teleports away, although this does require quite high attack stat to be done.

Trivia[]
- The Hien is one of the ingredients required to craft the Gatling Gun. However, the player may opt to refrain from performing this combination right away, as due to the rarity of its materials (it requires the Devil Iron, which is stolen from the Minotaurus boss), only one Hien can be crafted during each playthrough.
