The Holy Mail is an armor that offers protection against Holy based attacks.
In Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, it gives more DEF than any of the other elemental armors, giving 3 more than the Dark Armor, Ice Mail or Lightning Mail. While there are few common enemy types which do Holy damage, Richter Belmont almost exclusively performs Holy-based attacks, increasing this armor's usefulness against him.
In Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin, it can be worn by Jonathan Morris and is the only elemental armor in that game. It provides the same amount of DEF as the Gold Plate (+25) and also gives a +10 MND boost. The armor can prove to be rather helpful for unlocking the Vampire Killer's true power, since a good portion of the Whip's Memory's attacks deal Holy damage, players may find it worthwhile to fully explore the Forgotten City first in order to obtain it.
