Ignis (Latin for "Fire") is the name used for any flame-based glyph and was originally introduced into the series in Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia. There are two kinds of Ignis glyphs:
- Ignis: The regular Ignis glyph, called simply "Flames" by Shanoa, causes three small fireballs to be launched forward quickly with limited range. One goes straight, one angles upward and one angles downward.
- Vol Ignis: Vol Ignis, which Shanoa calls "Raging Blaze", causes a pillar of flames to erupt from the ground in front of her.
In Hard Mode, Albus can use the normal Ignis glyph during his fight, along with Grando and Fulgur.
Ignis can perform a variety of different types of flame-based Glyph Unions. When any two Ignis glyphs perform a Glyph Union with each other, Shanoa summons the Union Ignis attack, which causes two streams of flames to shoot forward, whose angles move up and down in a wave-like pattern, crossing through each other. This same attack, called simply "Ignis", can also be performed in Castlevania: Judgment by holding the special button while attacking in the air. She usually yells out "Burn!" during this attack.
When done with a normal Weapon Glyph, a Glyph Union called Mars will cause a large fire sword to be swung overhead. The Evanescere ("Burn to Ice!") Glyph Union is performed with any Grando (Ice) glyph. This causes an ice crystal with a fiery center to be formed which moves forward slowly. A fireball and an ice crystal ball also move forward, which travel up and down and criss-cross each other with it toward the end of the screen.
The normal Ignis is Shanoa's initial glyph in Harmony of Despair. It functions the same way as in Order of Ecclesia and can be absorbed from Aliorumnas when she casts it. It consumes 15 MP per use and can be upgraded to level 9 by continuous usage. Its range gets longer as it levels up.
