The Infernal Machine is an object featured in the Castlevania: Nocturne animated series. It is a large machine that uses energy channeled from Hell to transform dead bodies into night creatures.
History[]
Jacques, a young French revolutionary and friend of Richter Belmont and Maria Renard, is attacked by the Marchioness while leaving a pub at night and then dragged by her all the way to the Vendée château, where he is finally killed and his body is thrown on a pile of other dead bodies gathered there. Suspecting the aristocrats may have something to do with the recent rise of vampire attacks in town, Richter, Maria, Annette and Edouard head to the château to spy on them, but are discovered and attacked, with Edouard being killed during the struggle and becoming one more of the pile of dead bodies gathered by the vampires.
The bodies are later carried by night creatures through sea and land to Machecoul's abbey. It is at this moment when it is revealed the creatures work for the Abbot and that he is colluded with the vampire followers of Erzsebet Báthory. The bodies are then carried down to the abbey's catacombs. Inside, and almost occupying the entire room, lies a large and mysterious machine that was procured to the Abbot by Báthory's forces;[1] it has a central chamber and many other contraptions around it. Edouard's body is hung and introduced into the chamber, and after some workings by the machine, he reemerges resurrected as a horrific night creature.
Olrox, a vampire who has reluctantly sworn allegiance to Báthory, aids the heroes by telling them about the existence of the machine and that it is how the night creatures are being created. He also gives them an Enochian spell book he stole from the abbey and which is actually the Forgemaster tool the Abbot uses to channel souls from Hell into the machine to make it work. Through the book's reading, Tera learns that while the machine cannot be destroyed, it can instead be sent back to Hell by opening a portal to it.
The heroes make haste and storm into the abbey to both rescue Maria (who had previously been taken prisoner by the Abbot) and to get rid of the machine. A battle ensues between them and the Abbot's night creatures, Drolta Tzuentes and her vampire minions, while Annette descends into the catacombs to try to push the machine through a portal Tera has opened by reciting an incantation from the book. However, Báthory also arrives to the abbey shortly afterward and she easily defeats the heroes and prepares to turn Maria into a vampire. This makes Tera to lose her concentration, interrupting the spell and closing the portal before Annette could push the machine through it.
Description[]
A large and complex machine that uses energy (or souls) gathered from Hell to transmogrify dead bodies into living night creatures in a short time. The machine dwells in the catacombs of Machecoul's abbey, and that is only managed by its abbot, Emmanuel, who secretly is a Forgemaster, and like previous individuals of this guild, he has to utilize a tool to be able to channel souls from Hell, which the machine then inserts into the bodies to reanimate them; in this case, an Enochian spell book.
The machine itself is very large and occupies almost the entire room it lies in. Its central structure consists of an openable chamber where dead bodies can be introduced, and moments later, the resulting living night creature is delivered. On its top, it has a diamond shaped container adorned with a cross on its top where the gathered energy is stored. Above this container is a bell-shaped structure, which in turn is held by more machinery that goes all the way to the ceiling of the room. On the sides of the central chamber, there are two large octagonal shaped devices with several gears all over them which possibly work as energy generators. Additionally, there are large hoses and tubes all around the machine, a control panel with many valves, and ventilation railings on its base.

Trivia[]
- Night creatures created by this machine are known to easily remember memories of their previous human lives, some even retaining the ability of thinking and speech. It is possible that the usage of the machine instead of the personal manufacture by a Forgemaster may have something to do with this, although this is currently unconfirmed.
- The machine and room the Abbot uses for forging night creatures bears a resemblance to the Anti-Soul Mysteries Lab from Castlevania: Lament of Innocence.
