The Jersey Devil comes from a mythic monster that lives in the Pine Barrens, a heavily forested region in southern New Jersey. The most popular of the Jersey Devil's origins is that the monster is the child of a Mrs. Leeds, who had twelve children and didn't want anymore. When she worried that she was pregnant once more, she said: "If I have another child, let it be the Devil". When she gave birth to the thirteenth child, it was indeed an inhuman creature, and as soon as it was born, it flew off into the surrounding forests. Other origins include Mrs. Leeds throwing the unwanted child into her basement to let it die, but it started to grow fur and eventually escaped.

Rumors of its existence have been going on since the colonial era, with a large number of sightings in the 1800s; one of the witnesses being Joseph Bonaparte, eldest brother of the French Emperor Napoleon, who is said to have witnessed the Jersey Devil while hunting in Bordentown, New Jersey, around 1820. Since then, however, the terrifying beast has made few appearances.

Jersey Devils appear in Argila Swamp. They usually fly up when the player comes near them, and either swoop down on Shanoa or breathe a small cloud of fire from their mouths. After rescuing the journalist Marcel, and when talked to again at Wygol Village, he will give the player a mission to photograph this creature.
