Button-Sypha-Belnades

Sypha Belnades using magic.

Magic is a supernatural mystical force present in the animated universe of Castlevania and Castlevania: Nocturne.

Description[]

Magic can be acquired in two ways, by learning it or by being born with it. In general, magic can be used and learned by anyone (such as humans and vampires for example) through training in the magical arts, but there are some specialized types of magic that are limited only to humans or only to vampires.

Magic users who master the art to perfection are known as wizards, sorcerers and witches.

Focused form of magic is represented by spells.

Magic types[]

Elemental magic[]

Elemental magic is the most commonly used type. It is focused on manipulating elements of nature, which are commonly called earth, water, air and fire (corresponding to four states of matter - solid, liquid, gas and plasma).

The most used types seem to be manipulating fire, ice and lightning, but some are capable of manipulating more difficult elements such as controlling earth, wind, metal, etc.

The Speakers respect the nature of magic and even have practitioners as members. Sypha Belnades, being a notable example, bequeathed her magic skills to the Belmonts who came after Trevor.

Divine magic[]

Divine magic is a rare and very powerful magic; it mainly draws power from the deities, those who make use of this great magic are usually people close to their deity, who acquired part of their power by consuming it, or in rarer cases, being their direct descendants.

Forging[]

Forging is a special type of magic focused on manipulation of souls of the dead for the purpose of returning them into new bodies as Night Creatures. Practitioners of forging are called Forgemasters. Some of them claim that only humans can learn this type of magic.

Necromancy[]

Necromancy is death magic focused on manipulating bodies of the dead, such as creating zombies or walking skeletons. It seems to be distinct from forging magic, although some Forgemasters also know necromancy.

Summoning[]

Summoning is the magic that allows a person to summon creatures and beings from other planes and make them do the summoner's will.

Mind magic[]

Mind magic focuses on control of the mind, such as creating illusions or changing one's will.

Chaos magic[]

Some spells draw magic from some primal forces of Chaos, channeling the universal entropy itself into usually destructive force.

Other magic[]

Various other obscure types of magic exist, such as magic used for remote communication, teleportation, and so on. In general, the line between magic and technology tends to be blurred, which reminds the idea of Arthur C. Clarke who said that "any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic".
