The Mandragora is a creature based on the real-life Mandrake plant, which has vaguely human-shaped roots and is often attributed to be an aphrodisiac, or have magical properties. Legends of lethal, screaming Mandragoras date as far back as Josephus, and the myth is prevalent enough that they even appear in the Harry Potter books and films.
Appearances
Castlevania 64
Important item in the Castle Center.
Castlevania: Circle of the Moon
The Mandragora enemy never appears in the game, but it is a DSS card, representing the element of plant, and thus producing many plant-like effects when combined with other cards. When the Uranus card is gained, the Mandragora can be summoned, doing massive damage.

Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow
The Mandragora is a harmless plant when in the ground, but when uprooted by a skeleton it screams, severely damaging Soma if nearby. Its soul is a screen-wide damaging blast.
Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow
The Mandragora uproots itself without the help of a skeleton. It also does less be damage. For its soul, Soma tosses an exploding Mandragora like a hand grenade, which does massive damage to enemies. For some strange reason, Mandragora cannot be boosted by the Skeleton Farmer Soul.
Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin
The Mandragora functions the same as in Dawn of Sorrow, only without dropping a soul.
