Maria Renard sets off on a journey to Dracula's Castle in search of Richter Belmont in Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. There, she runs into Alucard several times and requests his help in finding Richter. Maria is not playable in the original PlayStation version, but two later editions of the game feature two different styles of gameplay for her.
When: First meeting with Maria at the Clock Room in Marble Gallery Summary: Maria is leaning by the large clock when Alucard enters the room. She notices that he appears human, yet something seems off about him. She asks what he is doing there, and he indicates he intends to destroy the castle. She is happy to hear that since that is also her goal, and they introduce themselves, though she notices he doesn't have the gift for gab. She takes her leave, indicating perhaps they'll see each other again if he is able to survive long enough.
version (original) - [transcript][video]:
Maria: You seem human and yet... What do you here?
Alucard: .......... I've come to destroy this castle. Maria: Then we have the same purpose. I'll trust you for now. I'm Maria. Who are you? Alucard: .......... Alucard.
Maria: Not the talkative type I can see. Well, perhaps we'll meet again if you live that long. Farewell.
version (new) - [transcript][video]:
(Maria is leaning against a corridor)
Maria: Wait. Are you human? What are you doing here? Alucard: I've come to destroy this castle. Maria: Likewise. I'm Maria...And you are? Alucard: ...Alucard. Maria: Well, if you're a better swordsman than a speaker, perhaps I'll see you again. Farewell.
(Maria leaves the corridor) (dialogue at 0:02)
version (Japanese text) - [transcript][video]:
Maria Renard: (待ちなさい。)
Maria Renard: 無愛想なのね、まぁいいわ。生きてたら、また会いましょう。それじゃ、失礼。
version (fan translated) - [transcript][video]:
Maria Renard: (Wait a moment.) You... you wield a sort of dark power, don't you? You seem like a human, but... What could've brought you to this castle?
Alucard: ...I've come to destroy it.... Maria Renard: As have I... I'll believe in your words. I'm Maria. And you are? Alucard: .........Alucard. Maria Renard: Not a talkative type, I see. Oh, no matter. Should you survive, we'll meet again. Now then, if you'll excuse me...
When: As crossing Blue Door Summary: Alucard runs across Maria again. She is perplexed that the castle doesn't seem to be the same as she remembered it. He explains that as a creature of Chaos, it can take many forms. Maria is relieved she's not going crazy and they part again.
version (original) - [transcript][video]:
Maria: So we meet again, Alucard.
Alucard: It seems so. Maria: As friendly as ever, I see. It's strange. This castle is different than I remember it. Alucard: ......... This castle is a creature of Chaos. It may take many incarnations.
Maria: So I can't trust my memories, huh? Oh well, I'll do my best. Good luck.
version (new) - [transcript][video]:
(Maria opens the door and walks towards Alucard)
Maria: Alucard, wasn't it? We meet again. Alucard: So it seems. Maria: As friendly as ever, I see. It's strange. This castle's different than I remember it. Alucard: ........ This castle is a creature of Chaos. With each rebirth, it takes a new form. Maria: And here I thought my mind was playing tricks. Well, there's nothing for it. Till we meet again.

Maria Renard:
Maria Renard: So we meet again, Alucard. Alucard: Did you say your name was Maria? Maria Renard: You're still not quite social. By the way, does anything here seems to be strange? The layout of castle is different, compared to my last visit. Alucard: ...Dracula's castle was spawn out of chaos. It is not bound to a single form. Maria Renard: That means everything I knew won't be of much help... I suppose there's no use dwelling in it. Thank you, and farewell for now.
When: After defeating Hippogryph Summary: After defeating a Hippogryph, it's apparent that Maria had been watching their battle and she comments on how strong he is. Alucard wants her to get to the point. She then asks him what he knows about Richter Belmont and explains she's been searching for him.
version (original) - [transcript][video]:
Maria: Impressive. You're very strong.
Alucard: .......... What is it you want? You didn't come here to tell me that. Maria: You're right. Do you know the name Richter Belmont? Alucard: Of the Belmont Clan? Of course, but... Maria: He disappeared about a year ago and I'm sure he's here. If you see him, please let me know. Alucard: As you wish, my lady.
Maria: Thank you. So you do know how to be a gentleman.
version (new) - [transcript][video]:
(Maria is watching over Alucard)
Maria: You look like you're doing well for yourself. Alucard: ...And? You didn't come here to flatter me. Maria: True. Do you know the name Richter Belmont? Alucard: Belmont? Of course. Why? Maria: He disappeared about a year ago. I'm sure he's here now. If you see him, please let me know. Alucard: As you wish, my lady. Maria: Hmm. A gentleman after all. Thank you.
(Maria leaves the corridor)

きっと、ここに来てると思うわ。
見かけたら私に知らせて欲しいの。 Alucard: いいだろう。 Maria Renard:ありがとう、案外やさしいのね。
Maria Renard: Impressive! Looks like you don't need my help. Alucard: ...What do you want? You did not come here to chat with me like that. Maria Renard: I suppose not. Richter Belmont... Do you know him? Alucard: One of the Belmonts? Maria Renard: He disappeared about a year ago. I'm sure he came here, though. If you find him, please let me know. Alucard: As you wish. Alucard: I don't know if he's the one you're looking for, but I found a Belmont. Maria: Really? So he is here! Alucard: But the one I saw was the enemy. He was the lord of this castle...
Maria: That can't be true! You're wrong! I... I must go now!

(Alucard arrives at the room where Maria is staying)
Maria Renard: So? Have you seen Richter? Alucard: I can't be sure that he was the man you are searching for, but I did meet a Belmont... Maria Renard: Really!? I knew it! He came here after all. Alucard: But he appeared as an foe. Furthermore, as the lord of this castle... Maria Renard: (gasps) That can't be. Even if that were the case, there must be some sort of reason. Sorry, but I have to go.

Maria: If you wear them, you can see beyond evil illusions.

(Richter recovers his consciousness)
Richter: No... What have I done...? Maria: You saved him, Alucard. Thank you so much. Richter: Alucard?! The Alucard? You can't be. That was over 300 years ago! Alucard: Never mind that. Is the man who controlled you in that castle? Richter: Yes, I think so... Alucard: Maria, take Richter and leave here. I'll finish this. Maria: All right... Good luck.
Richter Belmont: What have I done...? Damn it... How could this happen!? Maria Renard: Thank you, Alucard. You saved Richter... Richter Belmont: Alucard...?! You can't be the one who defeated Dracula alongside my ancestor Ralph...?! Alucard: That's not important right now... The one who controlled you... Is he in that castle? (Alucard takes his leave) Maria: ............ Alucard... Richter: Well, are you going after him, or not? Maria: No, he's right. It's best this way. There's no way I could ever ease his pain. Maybe someday, we will meet again. Who knows? Richter: Maybe... Maria: Let's go. Everyone's waiting for us.
(The Mournful Serenade plays with ending credits) (dialogue at 6:12)

Alucard: Never mind about that. It was my fate alone; I had no choice but to defeat him. Richter Belmont: Hearing that from you means a lot to me. Alucard: However, you must never forget this: the one with the power to destroy this world is not him... Humans themselves possess this power. Richter Belmont: I understand. I'll remember your words. Maria Renard: Alucard. What are you going to do from now on? Alucard: The cursed blood that flows within me has no place in this world... I should find a place where I don't attract attention. Maria Renard: ...I see. Alucard: Farewell, then. We shall not meet again.
(Alucard takes his leave) Maria Renard: ...Alucard... Richter Belmont: Are you sure about this, Maria? Aren't you going to follow him...? Maria Renard: It's okay. There's nothing I can do to heal his wounded heart as I am now... Besides, I can't help but feel we'll meet again... When that time comes, I'm sure... Richter Belmont: I see...
