Melody of Basement is a music theme composed by the Konami Kukeiha Club for the Haunted Castle arcade release. It is the background music used during Stage 4's Underground Area.
The track is also called Clocktower's Beat and Clock Tower Fear due to confusion between stages during localization and odd track placement on official album releases, often being bundled with or mistaken for the Stage 5 music track, Basement Melodies.
Title confusion[]
There has been quite a bit of confusion over the correct titles of the Stage 4 and Stage 5 themes from Haunted Castle. This seems to stem primarily from the two themes being mislabeled on one or more websites in the earlier days of the internet. In this respect, YouTube has only added to the confusion as the themes have been uploaded to multiple channels with incorrect titles.
Also adding to the confusion, the Stage 4 theme is often combined into a single track along with the Stage 5 theme, "Fear of Clock Tower". However, when combined in this way, the Stage 4 theme is always the first theme. The track itself is always titled "Melody of Basement ~ Fear of Clock Tower", matching the order of the themes.
Other titles associated with this theme include "Underground Melodies", "Basement Melody", "Den of Worship",[sic] and "Clocktower's Beat".[sic]
