The Orc is an enemy in Castlevania: Curse of Darkness. They are pig-like monsters operating in packs and attack from long distances with burning arrows or a rapid firing blowgun.
Origins[]
Orcs are a staple of many fantasy stories, especially The Lord of the Rings. They are often always portrayed as a tough, warmongering race of humanoids, though occasionally also shown to be a proud and honorable people as well. The origin of their racial name is derived from Old English "orc" which means "demon", itself presumably derived from the Latin "orcus" which was used to refer to "Hell."
The orcs' pig-like appearance in-game is possibly a reference to the superficially similar Gaelic word "orc", derived from the Proto-indo-european word porkos - "young pig".
Description[]
Orc[]
Orcs are not a particularly dangerous adversary, they fire one arrow at a time and are rather slow, the only real threat they would pose is when they fight in conjunction with other, faster enemies.

|
Sniper Orc[]
An orc armed with a crossbow that can fire three successive shots. They are encountered often, and can be a nuisance. Sometimes one will drop a rare material item called Carbon Steel.
|
|
Rapid Sniper[]
An upgraded version of its predecessors. Its bow can fire successive rapid shots, as the name implies. However, its arrows can be dodged by sidestepping.

Trivia[]
- Although not specifically described as such, the pig-like Slaughterer and Hell Boar from Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow may be orcs or may have their origin in the Curse of Darkness enemies.
- The crossbow used by the Rapid Sniper seems to be inspired by the chu-ko-nu, a Chinese crossbow dating from the 3rd century and which could shoot dozens of bolts without reloading.
