Rats first appeared in Castlevania: The Adventure, where they are referred to as "Under Mole" in the Japanese and North American manual (and strangely, Poisonous Slime by Nintendo Power). A whole family of them are faced as a boss at the end of Stage 2. Rats hide out in several holes in the cave wall. There are twenty rats total that leap out of the wall, do somersaults, and basically try to overwhelm Christopher with their vicious claws. In the parody Sexy Parodius, the Dracula's Castle stage features a whole host of rats (or mice) that come out from the background like the Rats do. These mice also parody a number of other Castlevania denizens.
