Ruins are regular environments encountered in several Castlevania games. They are often depicted as areas featuring the remains of past civilizations or decayed expansions of Dracula's own castle.
Characteristics[]
Stages featuring ruins are usually portrayed as dilapidated and crumbling portions beneath Dracula's Castle, including underground vestiges of previous structures the castle now sits on top of, or just the ruins of the castle itself. They also can be crumbling remains of towns or other areas around the castle, such as the ruins of shrines or abbeys. In some cases, the ruins might be ancient and indicative of previous inhabitants that may have lived in the area centuries ago, but have been claimed by Dracula's monsters, most often skeletons of the past denizens who used to live there.
