For the proper enemy known as "Ghost", see Ghost.

Shadow is an enemy in the Castlevania series. It is an evil entity that takes the form of a dark shade. It can traverse through walls, and in some instances, it can take the form and abilities of other creatures.

Castlevania Legends

Not to be confused with Ghost.

Known in this game simply as Ghost, it's one of the most common, and yet most dangerous, enemies found in the game. Ghosts appear from the very first stage and keep making a return throughout the Clock Tower, the Cathedral and the hidden stage.

They attack by homing toward Sonia in a somewhat erratic manner, usually in places where mobility is severely compromised. Since they're usually found in numbers and can reach the player directly from above or below, it's sometimes very difficult to attack them.

Castlevania: Harmony of Dissonance

Shadow appears as the boss of the Sky Walkway (Castle B), in the room behind from where Maxim is encountered.

In this version, Shadow first appears as a phantasmagorical face (similar to Death Fire from Dracula's Curse). It is intangible in this state, neither being able to harm nor be harmed. Not long after its introduction, it will take the form of one of three possible creatures: a Black Panther, a Moth or an Evil Sword.

Black Panther

Shadow usually starts the battle in this form, which is arguably the easiest. The panther only makes passes from one side of the room to the other, occasionally performing leaps in an attempt to catch the player in midair if they jump prematurely.

As a moth, Shadow flies across the screen, occasionally making slow swoops and sprinkling poisonous dust on its wake (similarly to the Princess of Moss from Castlevania: Bloodlines).

Evil Sword

Shadow's most dangerous form. Taking the shape of a big scimitar, it starts spinning around and chasing after the player, slashing anything on its path. Due to its size, it covers a large area of the screen, often making it difficult to avoid. The non-infused Axe sub-weapon is especially effective against this form, as the arc it traces allows it to hit it three or even four times per attack.

Once it is defeated, Shadow will struggle attempting to transform into the one of the three forms (being depicted as the forms being engulfed in shadowy fire) before exploding.
