The Skeleton Cave (骸骨魔窟 (がいこつまくつ) Gaikotsu Makutsu?, lit. "Demon Cave of Skeletons") (Cave of Skeletons in Advance Collection) is a location in Castlevania: Harmony of Dissonance. As its name implies, it is a cave made up of skeletal bone fragments and it is mostly inhabited by skeletal enemies, both large and small.
Overview[]
Another strange conversation between Juste and Maxim takes place here. This time Maxim acts aggressively toward Juste, accusing him of being Lydie's captor. He also mentions that he has recently acquired new powers with which he can surpass Juste's own strength, then flees, leaving Juste dismayed about what he just heard.
Castle A[]
The air is filled with a bluish atmosphere. Being deep underground, much water flows through the halls filled with hazel-toned bones and skulls alike.
Castle B[]
The blood red air fills the backdrop of the caves. Many of the beautiful paintings and statues have been ruined by the sinister atmosphere. Pale white bones make up a majority of the cave's surfaces.
Connecting areas[]
- Castle Treasury - Northeastern tower.
- Entrance - Northwestern room.

Trivia[]
- Many backgrounds in this area house the remains of bosses from previous Castlevania titles. Among them are the Giant Ghost, the Behemoth, Slogra, Gaibon, and Medusa. In addition, sculpted imagery of a few other bosses can also be found, such as Vampira's mask from Simon's Quest and the Evil God from Dracula's Curse.
- In one room, the player will come across giant skulls of an unknown creature that must be used as ramps to reach higher platforms. Since many titles in the Castlevania franchise have adopted a similar gameplay style to that of the Metroid series (commonly known as "metroidvanias"), the presence of these skulls may be a reference to Super Metroid (Nintendo, 1994). In that game, the player faces a miniboss called Crocomire. When defeated, by making the monster fall into a lava lake, its skin melts away, leaving its skeleton exposed. The skulls in the Skeleton Cave bear an uncanny resemblance to that of Crocomire's.
- In one of the larger corridors of this stage (Castle A), the player will come across a series of glass capsules, each containing a strange creature known as the Skeleton Glass. These skeletons seem to be the result of bizarre experiments, as they bear a large eyeball in place of a skull. They are worth a lot of EXP, and also drop $250 money bags and Rubies. Because these enemies are very easy to kill, this room is an excellent place to level up. As the player reaches higher levels (around 40+), the experience they give will start to significantly decrease. When the player reaches Level 45, the Skeleton Glasses will only give 1 EXP point.
- In the background of the Skull Knight's boss room, there are seven giant suits of armor equipped with swords and shields, with the second slot of the left group being empty and presumably reserved for an eighth suit of armor, implying it could have animated and be one of the many giant armor knights encountered in the game.
- If true, then this room would initially have contained eight suits of armor, which is precisely the number of giant armor knights that are encountered in the game (Living Armor, Gate Guarder, Guardian Armor, Boomerang Armor, Bronze Guarder, Hammer-Hammer, Revenge Armor, and Pike Master).
- However, even after defeating any of the giant armor knights, this room will always contain seven suits of armor during the entire game.
