The Skeleton Spear is an enemy in the Castlevania series. It is a spear-wielding skeleton.
Description[]
Skeletons that wield a variety of types of spears. The first skeleton spears that appeared in the series rode on rafts in Castlevania: Rondo of Blood and attempted to knock the player off of their own raft. They later wielded halberds (or naginatas) in Symphony of the Night and other games.
The Skeleton Diver in Curse of Darkness is a boss version of the Skeleton Spear, armed with throwing tridents and riding a giant skeletal fish.
Appearances[]
Castlevania: Rondo of Blood[]
Called Raft Skeletons in this game and for a good reason. Should the player take their chances and jump onto one of the logs being carried by the current below on the second section of Stage 4', they will find themselves traveling on the river's rapids while being chased by these enemies in an attempt to knock them down their ride. Killing a Raft Skeleton will cause another to spawn, and the player can stay out of their spear's range by simply standing at the far right side of their own raft, so they are mostly just a distraction to make them miss the only opportunity to jump to safe ground at the end of the river.
|
Castlevania: Symphony of the Night[]
Called Bone Halberd, they only attack the player when he gets too close to them. They only appear in the Royal Chapel, where they are often accompanied by bats. When they die, they can drop a Javelin.
Despite their name and the appearance of their weapon, their bestiary description says they brandish a naginata.
|
Castlevania Legends[]
This time called Pikeman (Skeleton in Japanese), they only advance by brandishing their spear forward even if the player is not in their field of vision, bringing them closer to the behavior of Knights.
|
Castlevania: Circle of the Moon[]
First encountered in the Catacombs, they can now use their spear as a throwing weapon to reach the player from a distance.
If it can be difficult to get out in front of several of these enemies because of the number of throwned spears, it is however easy to avoid them by crouching.
|
Castlevania: Harmony of Dissonance[]
Found only in certain locations in Castle B, their appearance and behavior is exactly the same as that of Symphony of the Night. However, they are dressed in armor, even if that does not change much.
If they can no longer drop their weapon, they can drop their helmet. It is also funny to note that the helmet they wear looks more like a Viking Helmet than a Leather Helmet.
|
Castlevania: Curse of Darkness[]
- Main article: Skeleton Diver
The Skeleton Diver is a boss version of the Skeleton Spear that appears in Curse of Darkness. It is a skeleton who wields a trident and owns a skeletal fish. They guard the Bird-Type Innocent Devil near the castle's entrance, which is covered by water at that point in the game.
Castlevania: Moonlight Rhapsody[]
Due to sensitivities about showing skeletons in the Chinese Market, the Skeleton Spear in Moonlight Rhapsody is shown as a tall spear-wielding Armor called the Spear Soldier and distinct from the Lancer Armor.
