CoD Tip 15

Steal is a skill Hector possesses in Castlevania: Curse of Darkness. It allows him to steal gold, materials and items (sometimes unique) from enemies and bosses.

Location

Hector can obtain the "Steal" ability in Baljhet Mountains, shortly after visiting Julia's shop.

Overview

Stealing requires the player to lock-on an enemy and wait until the cursor turns purple. When this happens, Hector may then attempt to steal from the enemy by pressing the Final Attack button (Xbox 360 - Button B - 01/PlayStation - Circle - 01). The window of action can be very short (sometimes less than one second), so the player should be ready to steal as soon as possible (Death being the best example and the most difficult enemy to steal from in the entire game). In some cases, Hector will have to perform a specific action in order for an enemy to open its window for stealing. Some examples include:

  • Executing a Perfect Guard when an enemy performs a specific attack.
  • Executing an uppercut and jumping immediately to steal from the enemy while it is still airborne.
  • Knocking the enemy down.
  • Freeing oneself from an enemy's grasp.

Most of the time, stealing will cancel the enemy's action. For instance, stealing from a Skeleton while it attacks, will stop the attack.

Notes

  • The first boss, Crazy Armor, is fought before obtaining the 'Steal' skill and can't be fought again during that playthrough. Players will have to challenge him in Boss Rush Mode to steal from him (the same applies to all bosses, it's possible to steal again from them in Boss Rush Mode).
  • The Invincible Vase ability disables the ability to steal in many instances, such as with the Duke Mirage, and especially, Death.

References

  1. Boss Rush Mode only.
  2. Using the Invincible Vase ability from the Tiramisu Innocent Devil won't work if done too late, as the window won't open while the spell is in effect.
