The Hammer in Castlevania: Symphony of the Night is an item that can be used to get rid of the Stone status. It can only be used by a Faerie Familiar if it is in the inventory when Alucard becomes petrified. The familiar will take the hammer and whack him on the head, which will crack the stone, thus freeing him.
In Castlevania: Curse of Darkness, Stone Breaker is also the name of the spell which can be learned by the Hornet Innocent Devil. Basically, it does the same effect of removing the Stone status effect at the cost of 5 Hearts.
