Forest of Evil Spirits is a location in Super Castlevania IV. It's made up of three distinct areas: the forest, the poison lake, and the river.
Sub-stages[]
- 2-1: The Forest (also called Woods) - Includes lots of old tombstones, a rocky ditch and Dracula's Castle off in the distance.
- 2-2: Poison Lake (also called Swamp) - This version of the swamps has the requisite mud and some suspension bridges. Despite its name, touching this water does no damage. At the end is a temple, where the boss Medusa is faced.
- 2-3: The River - Features running water that periodically switches directions.

Notes[]
- The castle in 2-1 appears more like a model of Dracula's Castle due to is being placed on the 'nearest' background layer instead of on a 'lower' layer.
- The composition of 2-1 brings to mind Haunted Castle Stage 1 which is a cemetery stage that leads from a city into a forest.
- After examining the graphics used in the three sub-stages there is some evidence that they are not in the order they were originally intended to be in.
- Curiously, this stage's boss, Medusa, resides in sub-stage 2-2 instead of 2-3.
- 2-1 and the beginning of 2-3 share stone, tree trunk, leaf, and grass tiles which suggests one leads into the other.
- 2-3 and 2-2 also share the same stone graphics as 2-1, however, 2-2 uses them in a manner that is more consistent with 2-3.
- Furthermore, however unlikely, it is also possible that 5-1 may have been an alternate area leading from 2-3 sharing some similar stone graphics in a different palette.
- However, 5-1 has several wooden posts that are reminiscent of those in 2-2 as well.

Other appearances[]
This stage may represent the path taken out of the town of Aljiba in Castlevania II: Simon's Quest toward Dracula's Castle utilizing the trick jump in Camilla Cemetery.
- Section 1 - The first block may represent Camilla Cemetery. The first part shows a cemetery with graves and low fences that resemble that stage, including Zombie Hands that grasp from the ground. In Simon's Quest, there is an nearly impassable cliff partway through the cemetery that apparently prevents travel to the right. This stage may incorporate that feature, as a lower path that must be taken and then requires precarious platform jumping to climb back up to the other side of the gap.
- Section 2 - The marshy area at the start of this section could correspond with the next Simon's Quest location, the Joma Marsh. While this area does no damage, in Simon's Quest, marsh areas deal continuous damage and could be described as poison lakes. After the marsh is a temple that could correspond with Laruba Mansion, where Camilla is fought in Simon's Quest, but instead Medusa is fought in this stage.
- Section 3 - After this in Simon's Quest is a river in the Devious Woods that must be crossed which may represent the river section of this stage.
