- For the proper enemy known as "Ghost", see Ghost.
Shadow is an enemy in the Castlevania series. It is an evil entity that takes the form of a dark shade. It can traverse through walls, and in some instances, it can take the form and abilities of other creatures.
Appearances[]
Castlevania Legends[]
- Not to be confused with Ghost.
Known in this game simply as Ghost, it is one of the most common, and yet most dangerous, enemies found in the game. Ghosts appear from the very first stage and keep reappearing throughout the Clock Tower, the Cathedral, and the hidden stage. They attack by flying toward Sonia Belmont in a somewhat erratic manner, usually in places where mobility is severely compromised. Since they're usually found in numbers and can reach the player directly from above or below, it is sometimes very difficult to attack them.

Castlevania: Harmony of Dissonance[]
Shadow appears as the boss of the Sky Walkway (Castle B), in the room behind from where Maxim Kischine is encountered.
In this version, Shadow first appears as a phantasmagorical face (similar to the Evil Flame from Dracula's Curse). It is intangible while in this state, neither being able to harm nor be harmed. However, not long after its introduction, it will take the form of one of three possible creatures: a Black Panther, a Moth, or an Evil Sword.
Shadow usually starts the battle in this form, which is arguably the easiest. The panther only makes passes from one side of the room to the other, occasionally performing leaps in an attempt to catch the player in midair if they jump prematurely.
As a moth, Shadow flies across the screen, occasionally making slow swoops and sprinkling poisonous dust on its wake (similarly to the Princess of Moss from Castlevania: Bloodlines).
Shadow's most dangerous form. Taking the shape of a big scimitar, it starts spinning around and chasing after the player, slashing at anything in its path. Making contact with it will instantly Curse the player. Due to its size, it can cover a large area of the screen, often making it difficult to avoid, or even worse, to get away from it if it manages to stun-lock and position itself over the player. The non-infused Axe is especially effective against this form, as the arc it traces allows the sub-weapon to potentially hit the boss three or even four times per attack.
Once it is defeated, Shadow will become unstable and start struggling to transform into one of its three possible forms, only to end up exploding.
