Talos is a gigantic armor that fights with its very long arms. It first appeared in Castlevania: Bloodlines. Its second appearance was in Castlevania: Harmony of Dissonance, where it dwarfs even other giant armours.
Origin
In Greek mythology, Talos was a gigantic man of bronze made by Hephaestus, who protected the island of Crete from intruders. His only weakness was that he had a single vein in his body, running from head to ankle, and at the ankle it was plugged only by a single nail. When Jason and the Argonauts had to face Talos, Medeia hypnotized him into removing his own nail, causing the bronze giant to bleed to death. In the film, Jason and the Argonauts, Jason himself removed Talos's nail, although the talos in that movie guarded a treasure trove of weapons for the gods. Thematically, Talos as an invincible warrior whose only weakness is in his ankle is similar to Achilles and his heel, although in this case it may simply be a matter of practicality, as Talos was so huge that a human being could not reach above his ankle. In Castlevania, his ankle appears to have been damaged in his fall.
Game Specific Information
Bloodlines
Talos is a palette swap of the Heavy Armor and Great Axe Armor in this game, which are the largest armours in the game. Rather than begin armed with a morning star or a great axe, its only weapons are its arms, which it punches forwards and down. Its special move is an even longer punch performed with chain extensions in its arm. This version of Talos is agile and able to jump around the screen.
Harmony of Dissonance
It first appears at the beginning of the game, disguising itself as a harmless pile of junk before chasing Juste into the castle in a manner similar to the Behemoth, and then accidentally falling into a pit. Talos becomes a surprise boss late in the game, encountered in the Luminous Cavern where it had fallen. Talos fights in the same way as the Guarder enemies and Aria of Sorrow's Golem, by slowly advancing and occasionally sweeping its massive arms or changing its fist into a sword to attack Juste. Its only weak spot is its ankle, in reference to the original Greek myth. In an uncommon example of in-fighting, Talos kills a Revenge Armor before it goes after Juste.
