The Underground Waterway, also known simply as the Waterway, is a location in Castlevania and Castlevania: Legacy of Darkness. It is a series of cavers underneath Dracula's Castle in 1852, through the green water in the stage misleads players into believing it’s a sewer.

Overview

Through these wet caverns lies a secret entryway into Dracula's Castle. But as for the waterway it self though, little is known about it. The poisonous water here has made it a perfect place for many lizardmen to nest.

As a stage, players will have to be cautious so that they don’t get poisoned by Poison Lizard Man. An area up ahead has an abyss with spikes attached to the ceiling by chain, and will drop down on players like a trap. If they’re to cross it without meeting certain death they’ll have to time their jumps perfectly. Further in the level contains slim walkways that will put newcomers to the game on edge, especially in Castlevania 64; when the auto view of the camera takes control. But ultimately the challenge is worked around in Legacy of Darkness since you can take control of the camera even when it goes into auto view. Last but not least, there are two channels total that must be switched off in order to proceed through the stage. To do so, players must step on floor panels. There are a total of 3 floor panels that must be stepped on before they are finally able to complete the stage.

Secrets

• Carrie Fernandez & Carrie Fernandez (C64): There is a small hole somewhere in the course that these two can crawl under. It leads to an area with more platforming, and two other pick up-able items that may or may not be useful.

Trivia

• If Poison Lizard Man, Heavy Lizard Man, or Fire Lizard Man falls into the water they'll jump right back out, sometimes with a counter-attack.
