The Wygol Village is a location in Castlevania: Lords of Shadow. It is the second stage of Chapter 5.

Zobek's journal[]

This village is one of the last vestiges of human civilization left in this place of death and cold. It lies not far from the Vampire's Castle, our next objective. I have some matters to attend to here, matters that could spoil our plans. I will deal with them and try to rendezvous with Gabriel later. He has not slept in days, not since the girl. The pain is etched in his face still, but in his soul only hatred drives him. We will not speak of it. He must not know I have seen everything, that I have followed him this far.

Overview[]

Wygol was the last outpost of humanity in vampire territory, located very close to the Vampire Castle. The area was extremely cold and many died due to the climate. Once news of Gabriel Belmont's assault on the castle started to spread, the vampires, led by Lieutenant Brauner, attacked the village in an attempt to lure Belmont to them. The vampire slayer killed Brauner and was led to the castle sewers by grateful villagers.

Reinforcements sent by the Brotherhood should arrive soon but, even then, I fear there won't be enough of us to hold against these terrible creatures. Brother Frederico informs me that Fairies combined with Light Magic can be useful against the blood-sucking devils. The problem is, where does one find Fairies? Find: Wygol Village

We are supposed to meet here to prepare for an assault on the castle. I have not seen anyone yet so I will rest in the mausoleum for the night. It's not safe here; Ghouls and Vampires prowl the night for wayward souls and I don't intend to be caught out in the open. The Ghouls especially pose a serious problem as their vomit is highly poisonous and I'm low on Light Magic, which is the only thing that can dispel it. Find: Wygol Village

Notes[]

  • The level's unlockable trial requires the player to finish the level without allowing Zobek to kill a single Ghoul.

Other appearances[]

This village was named after the village of the same name that appeared in Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia. Wygol Village's proximity to Veros Woods and the Vampire Castle, suggests that it is also analogous to Jova or Veros, as originally seen in Castlevania II: Simon's Quest.

Castlevania: Lords of Shadow - Mirror of Fate[]

Main article: Cursed Village

It is possible, though never directly stated, that Wygol Village ultimately became the Cursed Village prior to its destruction in Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2. Evidence indicating this would be the fact that Wygol appears to have been the only human settlement so close to the Vampire Castle; no other towns or villages had been mentioned as being in that region (especially as Carmilla had made living conditions there hostile to human life).

Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2[]

During the Castle Siege depicted in the prologue of Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2, a portion of the village was crushed by the broken Siege Titan. It was soon afterward completely obliterated by the Great Explosion after the battle between Dracula and Roland de Ronceval.

Humans eventually resettled in the areas around Wygol Village and Dracula's Castle, which eventually grew to become a thriving metropolis known as Castlevania City by modern times.
