Yomi (ヨミの町 Yomi no Machi?, lit. "Town of Yomi") is a location in Castlevania II: Simon's Quest. It is a mostly desolated town at the outskirts of Dracula's Castle.

Overview[]

Yomi is the last town encountered before entering Dracula's Castle. It is the only town on the large central river island and is entered from the Dora Woods from the north. It is mostly depopulated except for a lone Old Woman who urges Simon Belmont to live with her. At night, the town is notorious for a large flock of Ravens that have to be dealt with. It is only the second town to feature this type of enemy in the game and the only town devoid of Zombies. Beyond it is the Vlad Graveyard, last area that has any enemies before reaching Dracula's Castle.

Trivia[]

  • For many years, this town was widely known in English as "Ghulash" (a possible pun on "ghoul"). It is currently unknown the source of this unofficial name, but it is suspected that it was made-up by the author of a guide for Castlevania II: Simon's Quest and that the information contained in it spread out to other English websites during the early days of the internet.
  • Yomi may have inspired the town that Miranda was living in in the Castlevania animated series. They are both desolated towns with a single Old Woman as their only inhabitants.
