The Yuba Lake (ユバの湖 Yuba no Mizuumi?) is a location in Castlevania II: Simon's Quest. It is a large lake at the eastern edge of Transylvania. Rover Mansion sits on an island in this lake.
Overview[]
To get to Yuba Lake, Simon Belmont must take the Lower Road from the Aljiba Woods. When he reaches the base of the lake, he must make use of the Blue Crystal and kneel for a few seconds. A new path will then be revealed to him that leads underneath the lake, which will allow him to reach Rover Mansion. There are no enemies in this new path.
Since the Blue Crystal is required to open the way beneath the lake, the player will be forced to take a detour through the upper path at the Aljiba Woods and visit the town of Aljiba first, where they'll be able to exchange their White Crystal (that is, if they're in possession of one) for a blue one with the Vampire Killer crystal trader residing there (process that in most cases will take at least one day cycle).

Other appearances[]
It is possible that in later games Yuba Lake was expanded to engulf Dracula's Castle and sometimes much of the surrounding countryside. The castle in Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse is situated within a giant lake. In Super Castlevania IV, the Fortress, which corresponds with Rover Mansion, is situated on an island, which in Simon's Quest was on Yuba Lake. However, Dracula's Castle is also within a different island on the same lake. Other games show Dracula's Castle on a giant lake, including Castlevania: Symphony of the Night and Castlevania: Legacy of Darkness. Castlevania: Curse of Darkness places Dracula's Castle on a lake, but not the Abandoned Castle, which corresponds to the castle in the original Castlevania, which was not on a lake. This island was submerged at the beginning of the game, but was later raised from the waters. It is possible that during the events of Simon's Quest, there was another castle on Yuba Lake near Rover Mansion that was submerged.
